OCCUPATIONAL ENGLISH TEST

This is an English test for medical professionals. Currently the OET tests the following professions like :
 

This test has reading, writing, listening and speaking in English. Reading and listening is common for all the professions, but speaking and writing are Profession specific. For example medical doctors, Dentists or Nurses will have to write referral letters related to their profession.

It is presently accepted as a Standard English test for those who wish to migrate to Australia and New Zealand for higher studies or for the purpose of job.



COURSE DURATION: One-month extensive course in all the four skills. Since this is an English test, our concern is mainly on the use of language skills like using grammatically correct sentences, tenses etc

In case the student lacks language skills we suggest that they should take English language classes separately before taking up this test, as it will give them more confidence to attempt the test.

Who can take this test?

Those medical professionals mentioned above who wish to go to Australia for higher studies in the related field or for job should clear the Occupational English Test. The test has four sections:

Listening: 60 minutes

Listening passages are based on general medical topics. It is in two sections. After each question pauses are given to write the answers. Instructions should be read clearly before writing the answers. Answers in sentences usually are not required.  Students will have sufficient time to write the answers after each question.

Reading: 60 minutes

Reading sub-test has two passages ranging for 30 minutes for each passage. It’s a multiple-choice question with each passage having 10-12 questions. There is no negative marking for any wrong answer, but getting maximum number of answers correct will add up to the total score.

Writing: 45 minutes

Writing sub-test is profession specific. But the time allotted is the same for all. This is to test your skills in writing. Writing is based on a previous and present case history of the patient and referral letters should have all the vital details of the patient and along with this the letter will also be assessed for its grammaticality like tenses, flow and clarity in the content. Language skills are more important as the mistakes in writing are more glaring than in any of the other skills.

Speaking: 25 minutes

Speaking sub-test is specific to the profession. It starts with a warm up session followed by role-plays usually with two rounds of role-plays. The interviewer will be the patient with whom you have to do the role-play.

TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

Course Duration: One month (Monday-Friday)

This is an English test to those who wish to go to countries like US, UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Singapore either for higher studies or those who intend to take job. This test measures your ability to communicate in English in colleges and universities.
 

• TOEFL has four sections -Reading, Speaking, Listening and Writing
• Each section has a score from 0-30
• Total score is for 0-120
• 90 or above is considered to be a good score

Who can take this test?

• Under graduates, Graduates, Post Graduates and Medical professionals can take the test
• Some universities require higher score, however score requirement should be taken from the university you are applying for

IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

This is an English language test to those who wish to go to countries like US, UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, either for higher studies or for job. This test measures your ability to communicate in colleges and universities.

• IELTS has four sections Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing
• Total score is given on a bandwidth ranging from 0-9
• Required band score varies from 6.5 -7.0 or 7.5 based on the university you are applying for
• Band width details should be taken from the university you intend to apply for

Course Duration: One month

Teaching Methodology:

• Strategies for reading, Developing and presenting your views in an essay for essay writing; lots of practice material for speaking and listening are given.
• At the end of the coaching, mock test is conducted to give the students enough confidence and to give them an idea of how it will be in the actual test.

When can I take the test?

IELTS exams are conducted 3-4 times in a month. Before enrolling for the IELTS test have all the required details from the university you want to apply for and do not delay your admission by more than an year after receiving the IELTS score as the test scores are valid for two years only. Take the test well in time before you start the application formalities for universities.
